Welcome
A very warm welcome to my brand new tapestry classes, which focus on colour blending and many other techniques. I can take you from a beginner to a confident tapestry artist - as I've seen many students achieve.
What is colour blending?
Colour blending is where we will use 4/5 strands of fine yarn. We will have regular interchanging of colours to make the work feel artistic. Just a subtle shift in colour can have a dramatic effect.
I was a professional artist before becoming a tapestry weaver and I use this knowledge in my work. I like to push the boundaries of what can be achieved in a small space. I will take you step by step on your new painting journey on the loom.
First of all I want to say that I had to set up these classes so that everyone taking part can purchase a limited colour range of yarns. It means that my Starter Module, where I have focused on seascapes, is limited in colours but still gives you plenty of choice and the ability to then work on your own pieces.
Other topics
We cover so much over this course. I will guide you through:
colour blending - gradual and multiple colour
seascapes
landscapes
abstract
four selvedge (if you have a Mirrix or equivalent)
fringeless (an ancient method where we use a classic Mirrix loom)
how to leave exposed warp
how to create shapes and look after your sheds
weaving side on
meet and separate
pig tailing
importance of double half hitch knots
sewing in your tails
This school is for EU students. Each class is set up with subtitles and you can select your chosen language.
STARTER MODULE.
You can pick and choose what projects you do within the starter module, but I recommend you at least do project 1 and 2 to understand colour blending. We use gorgeous blues and oranges.
Project 1 - making a bookmark with gradual colour blending
Project 2 - taking this to a bigger scale and creating a beach scene
You will have understood subtle colour blending by this stage. You can advance to shapes ...
Project 3 - a sea scene with hills and optional sun
Project 4 - we advance quite a lot with the design by bringing in a boat and shadow. It involves the technique of 'meet and separate' within the waves. There are other options within this project so that you can simplify this design.
Project 5 - we take it back to basics. I want to show you that a striking image does not need to be complex. We go over colour blending again but on a darker scale. We also look at inserting lines and less complex meet and separate.
After our Starter module we progress onto some warp/weft manipulation techniques - having some fun along the way.
My first landscape exercise. There is now so much more video content available.
